During the second year of the project the main aim was to raise social awareness, empathy for refugees and asylum-seekers through organizing volunteering activities and including as many people as possible.

For our Erasmus + Project Refugees Wercome- When numbers become faces the Greek team decided to take action, in order to help the local refugee community. We did many things, from a tournament with refugees to events to sensitize students, one of which was to collect food and other supplies for refugees.

During the Erasmus + Program Refugees welcome – When numbers become faces our team of students, decided that we wanted to support the refugee community in every way we could. We chose to first face all the discrimination surrounding foreigners with an act of unity, as an attempt to show people that we, as humans, are not as different as we may imagine.

Art is considered to be a very effective tool when it comes in delivering social messages and in motivating people to take action. Students made a team responsible to organize for the whole school community a cultural event presenting refugees’ stories through performance (Eyes of innocence): music, dance, theatre.

During this Erasmus project (2017-2019) students searched the current forced immigrant issue in the world, causes and effects, political approaches, results, the situation on the European Continent, social effects and tragedies.

On Thursday 21-02-2019, a group of students from the 2nd Experimental Lyceum of Athens who participate in the ERASMUS+-KA2 project entitled “Refugees Welcome-When Numbers become Faces” (code number 2017-1-DE03-KA219-035539_3), accompanied by their teachers Eleni Georgiou and Dimitris Mavreas, realised a common activity with the students of A1 class of Model High School “Evangeliki School of Smyrna” and Eirini Arnaouti, within the framework of the subject of English.
